Summary of Story of an Hour Essay Example for Free
Summary of Story of an Hour Essay Audience Analaysis I am writing this paper to be reviewed by my fellow peers and my English 111 Instructor. The paper would not be very interesting if read by anyone that has not read ââ¬Å"The Story of an Hour. ââ¬â¢ The audience that I am targeting is for those that would like to know the purpose of the short story, ââ¬Å" The Story of an Hourâ⬠, written by Kate Chopin. I believe the story to not be intended for s specific age or gender, but I would have to say that women would be more prone to understanding and sympathizing with the story. I expect the reader to understand the story deals with the proââ¬â¢s and cons of marriage. I was able to understand the story due to my experiences in marriage, the up and downs that go along with it. I can relate to the feeling of relief when something that is not making you happy suddenly disappears, how extremely happy you can be, but when the good news turns in to being devastating news, how it can turn your world upside down, that it could cause you to have health problems. The Story of an Hour Author Kate Chopin, grabs her audienceââ¬â¢s attention in this short story by introducing the main character, Mrs. Mallard; a woman with ââ¬Å"heart trouble. (Chopin 527) who must be gently told the news of her husbandââ¬â¢s untimely death in a railroad accident. The opening marks a sad scene with Josephine, her sister breaking the difficulty news to her in ââ¬Å"broken sentences. â⬠(Chopin 527) Mrs. Mallardââ¬â¢s reaction, ââ¬Å"wept at once, with sudden, wild abandonment in her sisters armsâ⬠(Chopin 527) may be unlike most wives reaction to horrifying, unexpected news. Seemingly grief stricken, Mrs. Mallard retreats to her room in solitude. She drops her heavy body into a comfortable chair contemplating her feelings of the past, present, and future. Mrs. Mallard struggles with mostly internal conflicts with regards to her true feelings of the recent death of Brently her husband. One example, being when she repeatedly whispers from her lips ââ¬Å"Free! Body and soul Free! â⬠(Chopin 528) Her sister begs her to come out of the room ââ¬Å"Louise, open the door! I beg; open the doorââ¬âyou will make yourself ill. â⬠(Chopin 528) She orders her to go away but within a good length of time reveals her strong self and accept Josephineââ¬â¢s comfort. Suddenly, a man comes through the front door. It is her husband, Brently, alive and well. To everyoneââ¬â¢s surprise it was, and especially to his wife. She dies there of what the doctors say was ââ¬Å"heart diseaseââ¬âa joy that kills. â⬠(Chopin 529) Once Mrs. Mallard hears of her spouse death, her behavior and internal feelings may or may not be questionable to the reader. I believe Chopin wants us to see the main characterââ¬â¢s internal emotional struggle. This keeps us wanting to know more about what life was like with Brently Mallard. Was she really sorrowful about his death? ââ¬Å"And yet she had loved himââ¬âsometimes. â⬠(Chopin 528) Was she truly a happy person, heart and soul? She was young, with a fair, calm face, whose lines be spoke repression and even a certain strength. â⬠(Chopin 527) t times she is overcome by a mixture of emotions such as sadness, quiet, and yes even joy. ââ¬Å"She did not stop to ask if it were not a monstrous joy that held her. â⬠(Chopin 528) Mrs. Mallard finally settles in the belief and thought of being on her own now. ââ¬Å"She would live for herself. â⬠(Chopin 528) After reading ââ¬Å"The Story of an Hourââ¬â¢, I realize that the man character is a lonely woman when it comes to her emotions. The whole story reminds me of what a woman goes through when she is controlled by her spouse. Mrs. Mallard doesnââ¬â¢t even have a first name in the story, only her descriptive emotions that she holds deep inside. Through out this story the author uses symbolism. For example, ââ¬Å"there were patches of blue sky showing here and there through the clouds. â⬠(Chopin 527) I think the clouds represent disparity and the blue parts of the sky meant hope for her. The big open window is her lifeââ¬â¢s picture window! She sees ââ¬Å"new spring lifeâ⬠(Chopin 527) and takes in a ââ¬Å"delicious breath of rain.

Black Studies Paper :: History
Black Studies Paper African's past can be dated back to millions and millions of years. People from every continent is a descendant of the African origin. This essay will explain African's isolation to the rest of the world and some of the famous contributions and some of Africa's contributions to our world. Researchers have found that African people were the home of the first human beings. They have found fossils and archaeological findings that support thus evidence and by genetic research. These findings date back to 4.4 million years ago in Ethiopia. Actually human beings date back to 40 thousand years, these people were discovered also in Ethiopia. Around 10 thousand BC the Fertile Crescent had a large agricultural lands that produced vegetation, economic wealth, and brought people together. 7000 thousand years later the land became unagricultural and started to look the way it looks today in the Sahara Desert. This divided the continent into 2 parts, the North and the South. This made trade and contact to others extremely difficult. Poor soils due to shortage of water have taken its toll on Africa too. This is because poor soils lead to bad vegetation, which leads to less food, and then there are fewer jobs and less wealth. Fewer good also lead to diseases related to not eating well. Also Africa doesn't connect to any particular place. It has no rivers leading into the seven oceans, so there is not transportation or communication to those in the middle of Africa. Weight If you're overweight, eating healthfully and exercising regularly can help you lose weight safely and keep it off.And if you don't have a weight problem, physical activity and a healthy diet can help you maintain your current weight and reduce your risk of gaining extra weight in future years. Healthy foods are generally lower in calories and higher in nutrients than other foods, and regular physical activity burns off extra calories and keeps your metaboli sm healthy. Energy According to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, a combination of working out and eating healthy foods can boost your energy level as well as help you feel more alert and aware, both mentally and physically.Healthy foods give your body the nutrients and vitamins it needs to function at its best, and even though you use calories and energy through physical activity, the process actually increases the total amount of energy you have. Resolved Question Show me another à » Can someone proofread my argumentative essay? Can someone proofread my argumentative essay? Feel free to make changes if needed. P. S. sorry if it seems longâ⬠¦ In the United States, many people like to go out to dine at restaurants and fast food places on daily basics.People can turn their head to the right and left and they could see someone next to them who is obese or overweight. ââ¬Å"Approximately 22 million children under five years of age are overweigh t. During the past three decades, the number of overweight children in the Unites States has more than doubled. In 1983, 18. 6 percent of preschool children in the United States were defined as overweight, and 8. 5 percent were defined as obese; by 2000, 22. 0 percent of preschool children were overweight and 10. 0 percent were obeseâ⬠(Decklbaum and Williams p. 39S). Childhood obesity is an ââ¬Å"epidemicâ⬠in America as many children are either overweight or obese. The reasons for childhood obesity are lack of exercise, healthy eating and nutrition, health problems, and low self-esteem. The lack of exercise and physical activities is one reason for childhood obesity. Therefore, there are many elementary schools that do not have any physical education teachers to teach exercise. For example, many elementary schools would have teachers who have no background in physical education teach students about exercising.Instead, they would tell students to go outside during class t ime about once a week to play kick ball or softball and that would be their exercise for the week. Another reason for not exercising is technology. Many children do not want to go outside to play with their friends, exercise or do any sport participation. They rather stay at home to chat with their friends over the Internet using Yahoo Messenger or AIM (software programs that allow people to chat with each other). They also rather stay at home and spend hours in front of a television playing video games and watching television shows like Rob and Big, CSI, and Sponge Bob. Television viewing often is considered one of the most modifiable causes of obesity in children. Children spend a substantial part of their lives in front of the television set. Recent parent-report and self-report data from a nationally representative sample of 3155 children indicate that 2- to 7-year-old children in the United States spend an average of approximately 2. 5 hours per day and 8- to 18-year-old childr en spend an average of about 4. 5 hours per day watching television and playing video games.When these data are combined with typical sleep data from children, it is found that children in the United States are spending more than 25% of their waking hours in front of the television setâ⬠This shows that technology is a big influence on why children do not want to exercise or do any physical activities. Many children who are obese in America do not eat healthy or have proper nutrition. Now a day, many parents are busy with work so it is easier for them to drive to McDonaldââ¬â¢s or Burger Kingââ¬â¢s to order some fast food meals along with soft drinks for their children.Instead of cooking a meal and having their children drink water. In addition, these fast food restaurants like McDonaldââ¬â¢s would try to convince their customerââ¬â¢s by asking them if they would like to ââ¬Å"Supersizeâ⬠their meals, so they can have larger portion of French fries and larger soft drinkââ¬â¢s that would cost a few cents more. ââ¬Å"As children's body weights have increased, so has their consumption of fast foods and soft drinks. The proportion of foods that children consumed from restaurants and fast food outlets increased by nearly 300% between 1977 and 1996.Children's soft drink consumption has also increased during those years, and now soft drinks provide soft drink consumers 188 kcal/d beyond the energy intake of nonconsumersâ⬠. Proper nutrition is essential and yet many children are not consuming enough fiber per day. Instead, they are consuming less than 10 grams of fiber per day and less than 25 grams per day during adulthood. ââ¬Å"A 5-year-old child should consume at least 10 g of fiber per day and fiber intake should approach adult levels (20ââ¬â25 g per day) by 15 years of age.Unfortunately, persons of all ages in the United States eat far fewer than the recommended number of servings of whole-grain products, vegetables, and frui ts. In 1994 to 1996, only 3% of individuals 2 years of age consumed 3 daily servings of vegetables (with at least one third being dark green or orange vegetables), whereas only 7% consumed 6 daily servings of grains (with 3 being whole grains). Currently, dietary fiber intake throughout childhood and adolescence averages 12 g/day or 5 g/1000 kcal (4200 kJ), a level of intake that has not changed in the past 30 years.Because total carbohydrate content has increased considerably during this period, most of this increase seems to be in the form of fiber-poor refined grains, starchy vegetables, and sugar-sweetened beveragesâ⬠Mood Exercise stimulates brain chemicals that help produce feelings of happiness, contentment and relaxation, so you'll feel better if you workout on a regular basis. According to the Mayo Clinic, physical activity also makes you look better, which is a significant factor in boosting self-confidence and inspiring a satisfied life.Diversification Exercise and h ealthy eating can help make your life more diverse and interesting. You can seek creative ways to be physically active in your daily life and don't have to stick with the same exercise routine all the time. The American Cancer Society suggests exercising with co-workers, going dancing with friends, playing on a sports team and spending active time with your kids and family members. Following a healthy diet can also bring up opportunities for home cooking, culinary classes, farmers' market visits and more fun activities.

Resources For Treatments And Prevention Health And Social Care Essay
ââ¬Å" The physician of the hereafter will give no medical specialty, but will involvement his patients in the attention of the human frame, in diet, and in the cause and bar of disease â⬠ââ¬â Thomas Edison ( 1847-1931 ) The lifting costs of wellness attention coupled with the restrictions in the handiness of resources have created a division of involvement between the resources allocated for intervention and those allocated towards bar ( Corso et al. , 2002 ) . Almost two-thirds of the universe ââ¬Ës population is estimated to be seeking wellness attention from alternate beginnings and non the conventional biomedicine ( Pal 2002 ) . It has been known from popular sentiment that people prefer bar and preventative health care over regular intervention and medical health care ( Corso et al. , 2002 ) . Edison ââ¬Ës quotation mark has all of a sudden gained acceptance and the anticipation has about come true. The sum of attempt and resources put into bar and natural diet plans are a informant to the statement. This has led to formation of an alternate model for medical wellbeing known as the complementary and alternate medical specialty ( CAM ) . CAM is going progressively popular with patients and physicians likewise ( Pal 2002 ) . This signifier of wellbeing accents on disease bar instead than intervention of complaints. The focal point of the procedure is to maximize the built-in mending ability of the organic structure, which can be accomplished by proper nutrition. The intervention of the ââ¬Ëwhole ââ¬Ë organic structure is emphasised as opposed to the intervention of a peculiar job in the organic structure ( Pal 2002 ) . Florence Nightingale ââ¬Ës apprehension of bar allowed her to take attention of legion people. All she propagated was a demand for clean air, pure H2O, proper drainage and cleanliness. Similarly, many practicians around the universe have taken to preventive health care and the authorities are earnestly pumping resources into the procedure. In France, 2.4 % of the entire GDP was allocated to preventive health care ( Sandier et al. , 2004 ) . Chadha et Al. ( 2007 ) have stated that even the companies in India are cognizant of the benefits of preventative health care and are progressively sing preventative steps as ââ¬Å" an investing for human capital â⬠. Mancini ( 2003 ) stated a survey from the Harvard Medical School pointed out an astonishing addition in the figure of CAM users in the state. The inefficaciousness of the primary medical attention has failed to fulfill the demands of the big population of the universe, which has led to big sections of the populace to seek for options to the traditional medical specialty signifier ( Mancini 2003 ) . The inefficaciousness can be attributed to the defects of the modern health care system in non being able to supply the attention that the people really need ( Rister 2003 ) . Rister ( 2003 ) stated that existent healing was more than laboratory trial consequences and halting hurting and was in fact more about reconstructing organic structure ââ¬Ës built-in powers of convalescence. Rister besides emphasized that complete recovery and Restoration could non take topographic point without a balanced diet, exercising and proper nutritionary support. ââ¬Å" Scientific medical specialty prev ents catastrophes. But natural healing brings you body back to its original province of resiliency and verve â⬠( Rister 2003 ) . Rister ( 2003 ) has pressed upon the importance of bar in footings of maintaining path of information, such as low-sodium nutrient can take to natural recovery from bosom failure due to congestion. Exerting on a regular basis can bring around many complaints, while G-Jo can forestall and halt concerns ( Rister 2003 ) . Laurence ( 2002 ) has stressed on the importance of bar in instance of deathly diseases like HIV, where medical specialty is non available for intervention. Similarly, Battle and Brownell ( 1996 ) have suggested the limited impact the traditional medical specialty has on fleshiness, which has become a job of public wellness significance. The focal point, in such a state of affairs, should be on bar and public policy to deduce the needed consequences. Battle and Brownell ( 1996 ) besides emphasised on sharply prosecuting the research on bar. This idea is shared by Manuti et Al. ( 2010 ) , who believe that ââ¬Å" there is overpowering demand to develop and implement eff ectual intercessions to better bringing of everyday clinical preventative services. â⬠Policy alterations can take to a greater alteration that can change the present state of affairs of ingestion of unhealthy nutrients and brings about an attitude towards healthy nutrient and increased degrees of physical activity ( Battle and Brownell, 1996 ) . Manuti et Al. ( 2010 ) stated that bar could be utile in observing many diseases that could take to mortality. They emphasised that despite the fact that bar in inevitable in primary wellness attention, preventative services are normally sub-optimal. American Heart Association ( AHA 2010 ) has stated that basic preventative wellness attention services must be punctually included in the comprehensive wellness attention. AHA ( 2010 ) confirmed that morality due to bosom jobs and cardiovascular disease has decreased due to the alteration in the behavior and life style of people. About 80 % of the population in the universe can non hold entree to modern medical specialties. ââ¬Å" Low-cost intercession such as lifestyle alterations, diet, supplement therapy and behavioral medical specialty can be delivered as replacement for high-cost drugs and technological intercession â⬠( Pal 2002 ) . All it requires is a alteration at the nucleus degree where the patients can gain the demand to alter themselves. Pal ( 2002 ) mentioned that since the late sixtiess, more alternate practicians were seeing patients than primary attention suppliers. This confirms the statement by Thomas Edison, which was made at a clip when there were non sufficient options for the interventions of complaints. Despite the admirations in the universe of medical scientific disciplines, Edison ââ¬Ës words still hold true. Bell ( 2008 ) stated, ââ¬Å" a lovingness physician will order alimentary nutrients and possibly addendums if needed. A good physician will merely desire to see you one time a twelvemonth, and urge you stay out of infirmaries. It is wise to acquire one-year medical examinations, but Lashkar-e-Taiba ââ¬Ës touch on the topic of prescriptions for merely about everything and how non to acquire caught in that trap. â⬠The primary aim of intervention is self realisation of importance of acquiring better and the willingness to make so. If this is done early in life, and diet and exercising is regulated on a day-to-day footing, a individual can pull off to remain healthy for most of his/her life ( Bell 2008 ) . Although, at a younger age people tend to eat a batch and non set on weight, it catches up subsequently in life without any exercising or vigorous physical activity. With regular exercising, it may really be possible to eat and remain healthy. The sum of addictives in the consumables presents is really alarming and must be a complete antonym of the thought of a healthy diet. This is so really different from the fortunes Edison said, what he said, in. It is really of import to recognize the demand to alter and do an active attempt to do that alteration. People all over the universe have taken to recognizing this and prosecuting in natural bar and diet ordinance coupled with regular exerting to determine a positive and healthy life style.DecisionThe inability of mainstream medical specialty to get by with the jobs of the people all over the universe summed up with the fact that 80 % of the universe ââ¬Ës population can non afford the right medical specialty has led to an alternate signifier of medical specialty that has become popular. Peoples all over the universe are accommodating to these new signifiers of medical specialty that dwell on the premises of natural diet ordinance and exercising to rejuvenate the organic st ructure and mend the amendss that the organic structure has incurred. A good physician is considered to be the 1 that treats the patients good and makes certain that the patients stay fit and do n't hold to pay regular visits. Research workers believe that caring physicians should order good balanced diets and exerting to patients for them to mend wholly. Therefore, Thomas Edison ââ¬Ës words ââ¬Å" The physician of the hereafter will give no medical specialty, but will involvement his patients in the attention of the human frame, in diet, and in the cause and bar of disease â⬠still have a great value but it is being realized that despite such a demand for preventative medical specialty and intervention without medical specialty, there is a batch of development needed in the field to accomplish the pinnacle of success in the field of health care and good being. Edison ââ¬Ës statement has been realized to a great extent but has non been implemented worldwide as such. The portion of the statement that trades with interesting the patients in bar of disease and a healthy life style has gained acceptance in the last few decennaries and the people have become more and more self witting. But, the first portion of the sentence, i.e. no medical specialties is yet to be overcome despite the legion signifiers of alternate interventions available for the patients. There has been no one successful signifier of intervention that could be a remedy for all the wellness jobs without necessitating chemical medical specialties.

What Is the IB Curriculum What Are IB Diploma Requirements
What Is the IB Curriculum What Are IB Diploma Requirements SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips If you're reading this article, I assume you know a little bit about the International Baccalaureate (IB) program. If not, I encourage you to read our other article What is the International Baccalaureate (IB) Program? before reading this article. As a brief refresher, the IBO started this program in the 1960s to be a rigorous, internationally recognized diploma for entry into universities that students all around the world could earn. In the US today, there are 873 IB Diploma Programme High Schools. At these schools, some students complete the full IB curriculum in pursuit of an IB Diploma (which I will explain in-depth below). At some of the schools, students are allowed to take a couple of IB classes without being enrolled in the full IB curriculum (ask your local IB schoolââ¬â¢s IB coordinator if this is permitted, find their contact information in our article Complete List of IB Schools in the USA, by State). As an IB Diploma Recipient, I'll discuss what it entails to complete the full IB curriculum and receive your IB Diploma. What Are the Main Components of the IB Diploma Programme Curriculum? There are two main components of the IB Curriculum: the class requirements and the core. The Class Requirements: To earn an IB diploma, you have to take courses from six subjects, one each from groups 1-5, and either one from group 6 or a substitute from one of the other groups. Group 1: Language A: literature, Language A: language and literature, and Literature and performance. Group 2: Classical languages, Language B, and Language ab initio Group 3: Business management, Economics, Geography, History, Information technology in a global society, Philosophy, Psychology, Social and cultural anthropology, World religions, and Global Politics Group 4: Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Design Technology, Environmental systems and societies, Physics, and Sports, exercise and health science Group 5: Mathematical Studies SL (known as Math Studies), Mathematics SL, Mathematics HL, and Further Mathematics HL Group 6: Dance, Film, Music, Theatre, and Visual Arts For a full list of courses from each group with descriptions, check out our article on The Complete List of IB Courses and Classes. You must take at least 3 at a higher level (study 250 hours instead of 150 hours). Each class culminates in an exam. IB tests are graded on a scale of 1-7 with a 4 considered passing. For more information on this grading scale/score criteria, check out the IBOââ¬â¢s website. The Core To complete your diploma programme, you also need to complete what is known as the core in addition to the class requirements above. The core consists of 3 components: a class known as Theory of Knowledge, an essay known as the Extended Essay, and a project known as Creativity, Action, Service. Theory of Knowledge/TOK: This is a class that is a mix of philosophy, and IB says that the class "encourage[s] students to reflect on the huge cultural shifts worldwide around the digital revolution and the information economy." This class makes you think about what is important to you and think about big world issues. I LOVED this class! I think your teacher is critical to enjoying the class, and Mr. Fresco, you are the best! For the class, there is no exam. Instead, you write a paper and give an oral presentation. You can take it online through Pamoja Education. Extended Essay/EE: A 4,000-word mini-thesis. You choose a topic that needs to be approved by IB (which is not very difficult). You get an advisor (an IB teacher preferably at your school, although you can also get access to one at another school through the Pamoja Education). Write about something you enjoy because you will be spending a lot of time on it. I loved British theatre and ended up writing mine about a revolution in post-WWII British theatre. #theatrenerd. I really encourage anyone who pursues an IB Diploma to take the Extended Essay seriously. I ended up receiving a full-tuition merit scholarship to USCââ¬â¢s School of Dramatic Arts program, and in my interview for the scholarship, I spoke passionately about my Extended Essay. I genuinely think my Extended Essay helped me get my scholarship. Creativity, Action, Service/CAS: A three-part project that forces you to get involved in extracurricular activities. Creativity, getting involved in something creative, learning an instrument, acting in a play, writing a short story, etc. As long as you can argue it is creative (since you have to do a report), you can use it as your creativity part. I acted in a few plays, which counted for my creativity hours. Action: Generally sports-related activity, sports in a wide sense (could be anything outdoorsy like rock-climbing or hiking). I played on my schoolââ¬â¢s varsity tennis team and that counted for my activity hours. Service: Think of this as traditional community service, you can volunteer to feed the homeless, host a fundraiser for brain cancer research, host a drive to collect prom dresses for Beccaââ¬â¢s Closet, etc. Are Those All the Requirements to Get Your IB Diploma? No, you also need to hit certain score markers on your exams in order to get the diploma. You must score 24 points or more between all of your IB exams to get a diploma. If you score 24 points or more, you will receive your diploma if: All CAS requirements have been met. There is no "N" awarded for theory of knowledge, the extended essay, or a contributing subject. There is no grade E awarded for theory of knowledge and/or the extended essay. There is no grade 1 in any subject/level. There are no more than two grade 2s awarded (SL or HL). There are no more than three grade 3s or below awarded (SL or HL). Overall, there are no more than three grades 3 or below. At least 12 points have been gained on higher level subjects (for candidates who register for four higher level subjects, the three highest grades count). At least 9 points have been gained on standard level subjects (candidates who register for two standard level subjects must gain at least 5 points at standard level). The final award committee has not given the candidate a penalty for academic misconduct. How Difficult Is It to Meet These Standards? Well, the international IB Diploma Rate (The Diploma Rate is determined by the percentage of the students who receive IB diplomas out of those who were diploma candidates) is only 80%. So, about 20% of students, who complete the IB Curriculum outlined above, do NOT receive an IB Diploma. Also, the IB Diploma Rate varies drastically between schools (some have 95% diploma rates while others have less than 5% diploma rates), so I recommend contacting the IB school you are considering attending to find out their specific diploma rate. For more information on this, check out our article on Complete List of IB Schools in the USA, by State. Whatââ¬â¢s Next? Trying to figure out what extracurricular you should do? Capitalism - Essay Example Protection of private property was never so legally simplified before the advent of capitalism and the legal implications of private ownership suggested greater independence of private property owners and provided clear protected ownership that could be legally validated. Capitalism brought in the standardization and integration of property rules, increased trust in economic transactions and laid down the risks of ownership with possibilities of insurance against such risks. Loans and borrowing became easier as personal credit history could be checked and there was an increased standardization and transferability of statements documenting ownership of property (Levi-Faur et al, 2005). This specification of property limits and rules and regulations of ownership indicated a smoother flow of property between individuals and enabled a well-defined role for companies so that they could easily operate in national and international markets. The concept of capitalism has often been criticised by the fact that ownership of enterprises shows the division between the employer and the employee as the profits seem to go to the employer and is not shared by the employees. The growth of multinational companies is thus a direct influence of capitalism and the changing global economy has also been directly shaped by the spread of capitalism across society and nations. In fact, the world today could never have been the same without capitalism and considering this, it is important to examine why and how capitalism first emerged in the 16th century and what are the social, historical and political implications. Capitalism - A Background Capitalism is often contrasted to feudalism on the one hand where a monarch has ownership of property and socialism or communism on the other in which means of production are owned by the community collectively (Sweezy et al 1976). Karl Marx, used the term 'capitalist' in the Communist Manifesto although the word 'capitalism' introduced by Thackeray in 1854 meant as the possession of a large amount of capital. The ideology of the capitalist class also known as the bourgeoisie is known as capitalism which closely relates to the capitalist system (Marx, 1890/1976). Considering a social history of the distribution of wealth, Marx contended that human society has passed through several stages and modes of production. The mode of production has changed from ancient communism to primitive slavery, then to feudalism and capitalism. Marx sees society as being divided into two major social classes - the class that has control of the means of production (the exploiting class or bourgeoisie) and the class which do not have any control or does not own the means of production (the exploited class or the proletariat) (Marx 1890/1976). In ancient slavery, the slave-owners exploited the slaves. In feudalism, the lords exploited the peasants. Under capitalism, the capitalists exploit the workers and exploitation happens through the expropriation of surplus value. The surplus value is the total value of the products made by the worker minus what the worker is paid. The exploited class resists this exploitation and the resulting class struggle or class conflict is what drives human history forward. Marx argued that under the capitalist system, workers are treated like a commodity or equipment rather than a person and also
